Syed R. Ali is currently the CEO and Principal Consultant at Software Reliability Research, LLC. He has more than 32 years
of experience in software reliability, software metrics, digital switching systems, Next Generation Networks (NGN), Voice
over IP (VoIP), and large software system maintenance. Syed joined the Bell System in 1970. After the divestiture
in 1984 he joined Bell Communications Research, which later became Telcordia Technologies.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior to forming Software Reliability Research, LLC, Syed R. Ali was a Principal Consultant at Telcordia Technologies and
analyst of digital switching system and software reliability analysis of telecommunication products. He is the author
of "Digital Switching Systems, System Reliability and Analysis" ISBN 0-07-001069-2, published by McGraw Hill. This book is
internationally used for assessing hardware and software reliability of large telecommunication mission critical digital switching
systems.
He was also responsible for assessing and setting software reliability and quality standards for the telecommunications
industry. Syed has:
- Conducted detailed software reliability analysis on all major digital switching systems around the world
- Analyzed Software reliability of Voice over IP, Voice over ATM and related Quality of Service (QoS) metrics
- Written software metrics, patching, testing, and firmware requirements which are now de-facto industry standards
- Authored numerous papers related to digital switching systems reliability and maintainability
- Pioneered the concept of software fault insertion testing in telecommunication products
- Chaired software Surveillance Programs for assessing and maintaining software reliability and quality.
Syed is member of the national honor society for Electrical Engineers Eta Kappa Nu , voting member of Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM), and Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Syed holds BSEE, MSEE, and DEE Degrees in Electrical Engineering.
